"CROWN CRYSTAL", MADE IN SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA ABOUT 1924 Nearly 100 years old. black Amethyst/purple dark color "Kookaburra" MASTER BOWL. One mould has a kookaburra with a branch under it, and one has lettered bird perched upon a branch was found in the USA in October of 1997 this one has a branch, Outer side has the Wild Fern and wattle exterior. the Kookaburra has no Rd nomber  but the registered # in Australia  is Rd 40361 registered in 1924 , No cracks/chips. All Carnival Glass of this vintage and style comes with minor manufacturing flaws such as straw or tool marks, bubbles, grinding nicks and minor rubs or scratches due to use. These marks do not detract from the effect. Rather they are intrinsic to the manufacturing process.

Two main Carnival colours were used by crown crystal, marigold and purple (or black amethyst), the latter often referred to, descriptively, as “dark”. In a Crown Crystal catalogue from 1929, their Carnival items are divided into two categories: Iridescent and De Lustre - quite possibly equating with marigold and "dark". Rare examples of aqua base glass with marigold iridescence are also known . It is thought that iridizing probably began at Crown Crystal in 1919 and continued until the early 1930s.
The first patterns used for Carnival Glass made in Australia were produced by Crown Crystal from 1919, and they subsequently registered their designs from 1923. On some patterns the registered number is actually incorporated into the face of the design, such as on the Kangaroo bowl
the registered mark in Australia is ( Rd 40361) has shown not shown in the bowl
The circumference of the bowl is adorned with ruffled and crimped edging, while the theme of embossed wattle and ferns decorates the underside of the bowl. The bowl is in excellent condition and has been used solely for display in a glassed display cabinet.
Condition: The bowl is in excellent condition. It was made during the 1920s-1930s, but has no scratches, chips or hairlines. It is a truly fabulous piece, now almost a century old.
Dimensions: 9 " round on the opening, and 3" height  the underbase is about 4" round
