Red Wing
"Reed" Pattern Pottery Mixing Bowls
featuring all of the colors that were available in this line. Reed, was Red Wings first line of Dinnerware in the Gypsy Trail Line - Circa 1935.
Description: This pattern was aptly named, because it has vertical ribs all around it. The buyers of this line could mix or match the colors of their sets, this set is made-up of one of each color. Complete sets, especially in this color combination and condition are hard to find!
Here are the colors and sizes of the bowls in the set, along with the defects of each.
I'm a perfectionist, so my comments are very picky and probably overdone? No one else would even have mentioned these FACTORY DEFECTS, but I don't want anyone to be disappointed!
One 5" Orange Bowl
- Nice even coloring and no chips or cracks, but it has light crazing and use.
One 6" Ivory Bowl
- Nice even coloring on the outside, but a slightly darker cloudy effect on the inside - see photo 5 (I've never seen this effect, It had to be factory, because they are under the glaze)? There doesn't seem to be any crazing with very slight use inside. There aren't any cracks or chips!
One 7" Royal Blue Bowl
- Nice even coloring and no cracks, chips or crazing. It is about as close as you can get to unused.
One 8" Pastel Pink
- Good, coloring with a narrow 3/4" long line stain inside. There are also three very small turquoise colored dots on the inside - definitely factory done. There is also a small factory glazed-over dent on the outside rim. Light crazing on the outside, unused on the inside.
One 9" Yellow Bowl
- (see photos 7 & 8) Nice even coloring, no man-made cracks or chips. There are two tiny black soot pin holes, two small areas on the bottom edge where the glaze didn't cover, a tiny dimple or two and a 3" glazed over indented line on the collar of the bowl. There are some glazed over dark marks near the bottom on the inside and a few cut marks in the center.
One 10" Turquoise Bowl
- This bowl has light to medium use marks in the bottom, crazing and a blotchy, uneven color, a glazed-over factory defect on the outside and the bottom has some areas that weren't glazed over. There is also a 3/4" long small dark scratch on the outside.
Please see photos 10, 11 & 12!
