Red Wing Pottery - Discontinued LOTUS Pattern - Relish Dish
Discontinued LOTUS pattern - actual year of start of manufacture - 1947
Hard-to-find free form metallic brown ovoid relish dish in Lotus Bronze pattern
Relish dish measures approximately 8-3/4 inches long, 6 wide, and 1-1/4 inches tall
Relish dish is in very good used vintage condition with no chips or cracks but has one small blemish on bottom of bowl - possible manufacturing flaw - see photo #2
No branding on bottom of relish dish
“Red Wing had been producing the finest utilitarian stoneware items, using locally-sourced clay, since the late 1870’s. In the mid-1930’s, the company decided to import a finer-bodied clay, and transform their ceramic production into art pottery and dinnerware. The introduction of refrigeration some years before was eating into stoneware sales; they needed an alternative to boost sales and dinnerware fit the bill. Initially, patterns were bright solid colors; later patterns were hand painted and some of the last patterns used stencils.” (quote from redwingdinnerware.org)
